THE LAST THING I REMEMBER (Part 4): DAY 126 aka INDEPENDENCE DAY, I WISH…

WE, my family, usually celebrate INDEPENDENCE DAY at the “family compound” in South Carolina. Five families merged into what is now officially three families from marriages/relationships, etc,  totaling about 25 folks in five houses. In the past when other guests, neighbors and friends join in. well, it gets crazy. Things are starting to loosen up with Covid restrictions AND hockey has been rescheduled. Thank goodness.

Life sometimes is not fair. I am quite upset as DAY 174, August  21: Day 174 of was my grand-daughter’s Sweet Sixteen party .A few months in the planning, down payments were made for the hall, the DJ, and all the trimmings. The dress ordered and fitted. Everything ready and then cancelled with a phone call from the hall. Covid restrictions still loom, no large gatherings allowed. We soldier on with a family gathering in the yard.

DAY 189: THE KENTUCKY DERBY, AKA “the first Saturday in May” is moved to the first Saturday in September. A few days later classes begin in the schools and universities, most virtual in nature or a hybrid of face to face/virtual.

NOVEMBER 12: THE MASTERS is held. Maybe, just maybe we are ready to resume life before Covid. Towards the end of 2020 going into 2021 we were hopeful and ready to rock. My wife and I even bought tixs for David Byrne’s return to Broadway with AMERICAN UTOPIA and The TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND’s return to THE BEACON. Sadly, after three decades of having NY RANGERS season tickets we decided to opt out and let our seats go, just incase this “thing” isn’t truly over.

To be continued…
